A Reminder that we are continuing our Main Street clean up this Saturday, June 4, 2016 from 7:30 am to 10:00 am.  We are meeting in front of the Dunkin Donuts. We have been working eastward on Main Street next to Peters and the Salvation Army.

If you plan on helping please bring your own garden tools, mostly a shovel, gloves, a wagon or wheel barrow and something to pull weeds as well as a broom.

What we are doing.  We are cutting out a small portion of weed infested soil.  A layer of netting is placed over the clean soil and then mulch is replaced over the netting.  This will help to prevent a large growth of weeds to return.

We are also distributing a letter with an Adopt a Tree pledge for owners of each store front to commit to keeping the front of their property clean and weed free.  Free between the bricks and tree bed as well as between the curb and bricks.

Since the County has yet to do any clean up of Main Street, we are also removing large amounts of sand and garbage that have accumulated over the past year.  Recently they have voted to spend a few hundred Thousand dollars to make dog groomers pay for a license to be in business, I think it would be more appropriate for the county to send out street sweeping machines to do what they need to do instead of trying to tax another business owner under the disguise of a license fee.  We already have consumer affairs and other agencies that can handle any animal issues.  We do not have street sweeping machines or I would get on one and do the job myself.  I am not joking.  I am tired of Patchogue being ignored all the time.  The village has its own clean up and the people see their tax dollars at work.  Mayor Pontieri is also a caring individual so if something is not done; he is on top of it as well as any of the staff in the village.  Main Street is a County Road and work is under their jurisdiction. They collect hundreds more in taxes and fees than the Village.  They are without any excuses. Shameful!!

The Good News is that there will be a ribbon cutting ceremony Saturday Afternoon to welcome the new owners of Suffolk Beer next to TJ's Hero.  Perhaps you may have received an email from John Quatrale.  The time is from 2 to 4 pm.  The address is 510 East Main Street, East Patchogue, NY 11772.  Their phone number is  631-475-0480.  Pinky & Nilesh Patel are the owners.  This notice is also posted on the Bulletin Board in our Web site.  Have a safe weekend and God Bless.

For the next few months or however long it takes, you will notice Focus volunteers cleaning out the tree beds, removing weeds and installing fresh mulch, followed by a sweep of the curb and the removing of most of the sand and soil that is currently collected there.
If you can give of some of your time and labor, we would love to have you join us and help.  We are trying to meet early on Saturday mornings, about 7:30 am and do what we can until 10 am, just as the traffic begins to build up.  If 4 or 5 teams of two can each clean one tree bed, we will accomplish more than you can imagine.  Just the folks passing by giving a beep of confidence and thanks is worth it all.     We hope to bring awareness and caring into the mind and hearts of all our community.  If you would like to donate to Focus you can find our form on this web site or click this link...Membership
